If you¡¯ve been following Lite Eat Beat from the beginning then you¡¯ll know that of all the nasi campur (mixed rice) around I love Nasi Padang the best and I found another that¡¯s awesome. It¡¯s one of the many in Kampong Baru. This one doesn¡¯t even have a name but it¡¯s located right at the Lorong Raja Muda Musa 6 junction.

As always, go early. 11-nish. There are countless dishes. They even have the deep fried crispy eel. Tiny little baby eels. Served in a bunch tied with a rubber band and looks like Medusa¡¯s head gear.

To me, the must have Nasi Padang dish, apart from the Daging Dendeng is the Ayam Goreng Chili. Piping hot white rice with that and it¡¯s gravy, which is basically oil and red chilli, Begedil (potatoe beef cutlet) and the Crispy Deep Fried Eel and I¡¯m in heaven.

This place serves one of the best. All the dishes are hot fresh and extremely tasty.

The view is fantastic too. You¡¯re sitting in a Kampong setting and have the KLCC Twin Towers majestically over you.

Another outlet I¡¯ve not tried at TTDI Plaza. It¡¯s called Pucuk Ubi and they serve Sarawakian cuisine. It¡¯s the lot at the corner at the backend of the courtyard.

The menu reads like a Sarawakian indigenous dictionary. Luckily it all comes with an explanation. So many dishes to choose from. Starts with appetizer, then soups, the Main Course with Beef, Chicken, Seafood, Fish, Vegetables and then, Lite & Easy, Fried Rice or Noodles. You then have the Beverages and Desserts.

I¡¯ll give you one guess as to what I went for? Yeesss! The Lite and Easy. I went for the one that¡¯s recommended ¡ The Longhouse. 15.90. Comes with salted Terubuk fish. An out and out local dish. Rice fried with lots of local vegetables with sliced cucumber and pineapple in vinegar, and clear soup on the side. Tasty and surprisingly buttery together with the Salted Terubuk? Heaven. I also tried the Pucuk Ubi Fried Rice, 13.90. This one is fried with minced young tapioca leaves and shredded chicken. Comes with keropok and fried chicken wing.

They have a signature drink called C¡¯peng tea. A 3 layered ice tea with ¡®apong ¡® syrup. It was nice, refreshing and and er ¡ 13.90

All in all a pleasant Eat Beat outing. Restoran Pucuk Ubi, A-1-13, TTDI Plaza, Jln Wan Kadir 3, TTDI, KL. 11 a.m. to midnight daily.

If you want to comment on this go to The Lite Room and leave one or two on my blog.

We have another abandoned lake that¡¯s been redeveloped in PJ and lakeside is one of those new designed business centres called Plaza Kelana Jaya. Located behind the old Kelana Jaya Seafood Centre. And as with most business centres the first to open their doors are food outlets and this place have a few.

After checking out the 6 restaurants that were open at the time, I decided to try the one called Sanook and it was NOT a disappointment. Their tagline ¡ the best of Asia, Europe and US. Comes with a good view. Well ... that sums up what they serve and is an indication that they have a big menu.

My party of 2 went for the Hainanese Chicken Rice and the Cantonese Mee. Those were chosen based on nostalgic sentiments as that place kinda reminded me of Clarke Quay of Singapore and I used to have that there, all the time.

The Hainanese Chicken Rice was fabulous. The chicken was juicy and succulent and the rice was one of the tastiest ever. Served hot. It was so good I went for seconds. The Cantonese Mee was the real deal with the Kway Teow thick and slightly burnt on the outside. The gravy thick with lots of eggs and it stayed thick until the last drop. With most preparations ofCantonese Mee the gravy becomes watery half way through and by the time you finish, the gravy is like soup. This one was perfect all the way.

For desert we went for the Apple Orange Strudel with vanilla sauce. Luvly. Not too sweet. Warm and velvety. Drinks, Iced Lemon Tea and and Iced Latte. All for 72.45.

With the lake breeze, light flickering on the water, the sounds and sight of the musical fountain ¡ ah ¡ a perfect meal

You would think that with so many Kopitiams around and new ones sprouting like mushrooms you would be less impressed when you try a new one out. I was mistaken with this one. I was impressed. It¡¯s pretty good. I found this one at Dataran Sunway in Sunway Damansara, Petaling Jaya. What attracted me to it was it¡¯s striking yellow, orange and brown colour scheme. The ambience was a mixture of a kopitiam, a fastfood and a theme restaurant.

The people running the place and the waiters & waitresses are all well trained. They were friendly, attentive, fast, speak well and knew the menu which by the way was pretty good. Value sets, toasts, noodles, fried rice, nasi lemak, chicken, seafood and many many more. You¡¯ll be spoilt for choice. Their special was the Nasi Lemak. A choice of 6 combinations. Comes with a free Teh Tarik. I tried the one with the Chicken Kapitan and that was de-li-cious. The Curry Mee too was good. The curry was ¡®KAU¡¯. Their Roti Bakar excellent. All beautifully presented as well. With Teh Tarik and Ice Kopi = 23.85

I thought this was a new kopitiam but apparently they have been around. They have 4 outlets in Malaysia and they are a Singaporean franchise. Get this ¡ Established since 1953.13 outlets in Singapore.

It¡¯s called WANG Caf¨¦. No 1-1, Jalan PJU 5/13, Dataran Sunway, Sunway Damansara, PJ, Selangor.

Someone once told me years ago that the ¡ to me ¡ original Ampang Yong Tau Foo in Ampang is gone. Not there anymore ¡ and I believed her. So ¡ I¡¯ve been yearning for that nostalgic taste and place ever since. Wishing, I could revisit the place my father used to take the whole family for Sunday treats ever so often in the early 80s.

I keep getting recommendations to go to this cluster of 3 different Yong Tau Foo restaurants all in a row at Pekan Ampang. They may be good but those are not the Ampang Yong Tau Foo I know. The one I¡¯m used to is on it¡¯s own. It¡¯s surrounded by big huge Flame of the Forest trees. A lake nearby. The place is big, windy, cooling and very serene.

I don¡¯t know what came over me last Sunday. I suddenly just decided to take a drive there and see what¡¯s happened to the area. Would probably be lined with condominiums by now.

The area has indeed changed. Buildings, shops and hotel interlaced with twisting flyovers but as I passed the hotel I saw this tiny spot with some trees and there it was. The Ampang Yong Tau Foo. It¡¯s still there minus the dinosaur trees. Only the stumps are left with shoots trying to regain it¡¯s former glory. And, as is the case, every time you revisit your childhood places, it appeared to be a lot smaller then what you remembered it as.

The people running the place did not seem to age though. They¡¯re probably the children or grandchildren and the Yong Tau Foo ¡ still served fresh and tasty. It¡¯s still a haunt for fathers taking their families there on Sundays. As you drive in, seeing the parked Mercedes¡¯ and BMW¡¯s were a dead giveaway.

One thing has changed ¡ for sure ¡ it¡¯s now RM15 for the mixed bowl. I remember it being only about RM3 - RM5.

The sign says ¡ Restoran Syarikat Yong Tau Foo Ampang. Since 1976. Coming from KL on Jalan Ampang. Turn left at Jalan Hulu Kelang. It¡¯s immediately after The Flamingo Hotel on your left.

Last week's (21st Nov 2008) Lite Eat Beat ...

Another great tasting Briyani outlet. Off the beaten path. On it¡¯s own off the the Serdang Putrajaya Silk Highway. No 5, Jalan Puchong Lama, Putrajaya. A wee bit difficult to explain on how to get there but no worries, the map here should make it easier. Drive slowly and just watch out for their signboard ¡ Kafe Beriani Gam Putrajaya.

as

The place is big. During hot days it¡¯s a little dusty because of the dirt road but with the many big fans there it¡¯s bearable. I also noticed a stage with a bands¡¯ equipment all set-up and ready. I guess it¡¯s to rock the night away.

df

It was lunchtime and customers were streaming in. We got our seat, ordered the drinks and you pick up your Beriani Gam yourself at the giant pots all aligned in a row.

gh

You can have the Beriani Gam with a choice of ayam kampong, beef or lamb rendang. This rendang is different as it¡¯s watery. Kinda like curry. You get a bit of sliced cucumber, crackers, curry and chili paste on the side.

It was de-li-cious. The rice may look rich and heavy but it¡¯s not. The meats were all tender and juicy. I tried all 3 and I liked the lamb the best.

The BMW E60 M5.
5.0 Litre V10
507 bhp
0-100 km/h in 4.7 secs.
Top speed 330 km/h (indicated)
And these figures are STOCK!!! If tuned? Well, you can imagine lah.
I WANT!!!! I WANT!!! I WANT!!!

I can¡¯t seem to shake it off. There are not that many of these (M5 ya - not the other models) around and everywhere I go I seem to bump into one. Once, I was tailing a white one, a black one whizzed by. I¡¯m even dreaming of it. Is it a sign??? This car is consuming me.

Why do I like this car?
It¡¯s all got to do with the stats above plus ¡
It looks just like a normal 5 series. Dignified, unassuming, calm, cool and collected ¡ until you unleash the beast from under the bonnet.

This is a car you can drive your mum or wife to the market, drop her off, drive to Genting and back by the time she¡¯s done her groceries and she¡¯ll be none the wiser.

A car you can drive up a hotel lobby in your tux on a Friday night (and they will park it right up front) and on Saturday morning ¡ at the Sepang track in your race suit and full face helmet ¡ drifting!
The same car.
**************************************************

This car costs RM898,000/-.
When I get it, I know I will be getting a lot of this ¡
¡°Ayo, Ross! RM898,000/-.! You can get a house man! A B-I-G house. You can get 2 houses!¡±.
My answer?
¡°I already have a house!¡±.
**************************************************

For the uninitiated, how does one spot an M5 from the rest of the 5 series.
The easiest is ¡ the exhaust. It has TWO twin pipes.

But a lot of the 5 series I¡¯ve seen actually changed their stock exhaust to look like the M5s¡¯ so after you spot these double twin pipes try to look at the side of the car above the front tyres. You should see a vent / diffuser.

So if the 5 Series you see have these two things then it¡¯s very likely an M5.

It's MINE! MINE! MINE! All MINE!

080808. Anything special? Well it¡¯s my big bosses birthday. Happy Birthday Dato Borhan. It¡¯s also Daniella¡¯s birthday. Her birthday is extra special because it¡¯s 8.8.88. Ya! I know. Imagine that. I did ask her how¡¯s her life been so far? ¡°Like that lah¡± says she. Hmmm. Happy Birthday Daniella!

Luvly Daniella testing the leaffor eye bags remedy. Happy Birthday!

Other than that it¡¯s just like any other day and OH! As I write this, the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony is 1 hour away and that should be absolutely fabulous. I¡¯m rushing back home to watch that in a bit. So this will be short.

My family has expanded. I know I said I don¡¯t like caged birds but these two were so cute they practically begged me to adopt them so I did. I¡¯ll keep them for awhile and see how it goes and I¡¯ll set them free when the time comes. They are of the Pipit variety so I¡¯m calling the male Pete and the female Pia.
